Parents encounter more challenges on kid’s health development in the moderm time. Our children are surrounded by all kinds of electronics: TV, cellphone, ipad, computer, video games, you name it. In addition, the stronger sunlight is also a killer for child’s eye development when doing outdoor sports. Needless to say that every child, including mine, is born as a “Picky Eater”. Some don’t like wild salmon or sardines, and most don’t like their veggies.

Asking your children to eat a well-balanced diet is a mission impossible, especially for those essential but hard to get nutrients like Omega-3 DHA and lutein that are key for brain and eye development.

You might already try lots of supplement products for children but they hate to choke down yucky fish oil or huge softgels.

Now, we have a solution for you.

A: Docosahexaenoic acid, or DHA, is a polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acid found throughout the body. It is a major structural fat in the brain and retina accounting for up to 97% of the omega-3 fats in the brain and up to 93% of the omega-3 fats in the retina. It is also a key component of the heart. Numerous studies confirm that everyone, from infants to adults, benefits from an adequate supply of DHA.

DHA is important for brain and eye development and function throughout the life stages, but is particularly important during the first two years of life and early childhood. Between birth and five years of age, the human brain increases approximately 3.5 times in mass. During this time it is important that children consume adequate amounts of DHA in their diet to support this period of rapid brain and eye growth and development.

DHA provides a number of important health benefits to children, including:

  • Supports normal cognitive function
  • Supports brain and eye development and function
  • Supports a healthy heart

A: Most people believe that fish are a rich source of DHA, when in fact fish get DHA from the algae in their foodchain. life’sDHA goes straight to the source, producing DHA from the same microalgae sources fish get it from. Grown in a controlled environment, life’sDHA is a vegetarian and sustainable source of DHA naturally free of ocean-borne contaminants.

In order to create a great tasting product for our picky eaters, we use the vegetarian DHA instead of fish oil. Even though the cost is higher, we believe that a successful children food supplement is the one that children LOVE to eat and actively ask for it.

Keep in mind. FlexPower never uses SUGAR to attract children. Great tasting can come from the better ingredient sources, rather than adding the unhealthy additives.

A: Evidence continues to accrue that lutein plays an important role in eye health. Consumption of dark gree, leafy, lutein-rich vegetables, such as spinach, is inversely associated with the risk of Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD).

Lutein is deposited in almost all the structures of the eye and is selectively concentrated in the macula lutea, the region of the retina responsible for central vision. Lutein is also the only antioxidant found inside the lens of the eyes, helping to shield harmful light. The skin is the second largest repository of lutein in the body. Due to its specific deposition in the eye and skin and its reported protective role, lutein is believed to play an important role in reducing light-induced oxidative damage in the eye and skin, the only two organs directly exposed to light.

Lutein is not synthesized by the body and thus must be ingested as part of the diet in order for it to be utilized. Dark green leafy vegetables like spinach and kale are the richest sources of lutein. Other foods such as corn or eggs also provide these carotenoids.

For young ages, eyes are still under development and are very fragile and sentitive to
light. However, the daily lutein intake for those “veggy haters” is extremely low. It is important for all parents to confront this issue.

A: Not all lutein is the same!

Lutein can exist in nature in its true “free” form (“lutein” or “free lutein”) or bound to fatty acids (lutein esters). Free lutein can be absorbed directly by the body while lutein esters should be digested before absorption.

FloraGLO® Lutein is a patented purified form of free lutein, chemically identical to the lutein found in abundance in the diet.
